Human Rights

In this chapter, we show how Mapuche children and adolescents belonging to rural communities in the La Araucanía region develop their daily lives under constant and habitual police presence and how this presence affects them in exercising their rights.

The violations of their rights caused by police violence in the territory are analyzed by reviewing the protocols of actions of the Carabineros de Chile, the most relevant judicial cases, and data obtained from state agencies such as the National Institute of Human Rights, the Public Criminal Defense Office, and the Public ministry.

Subsequently, we analyzed how the various public institutions related to Mapuche childhood and adolescence in the territory, and how these are related to situations of violence and constant police presence in their daily work, how they respond to it, and integrating human rights and intercultural approaches to face such situations.
